Detection of Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soils by Electromagnetic Techniques

One of the most common and environmental dangerous pollution of the subsoil and underground waters is determined by hydrocarbons. The most common cases are determined by spills from underground storage tanks belonging to small deposits or service stations or from small but long-lasting spill from refineries and industrial plants. The most common investigation and monitoring techniques require drillings and excavations, The most modern and valid remediation methodologies require a precise determination of the geometry of polluted underground for a effective application. Geophysical methods could constitute an appropriate and effective nondestructive evaluation technique. The electromagnetic methods, such as Ground Penetrating Radar and MEW (Monochromatic Electromagnetic Waves) are high resolution techniques that appears very promising for such applications.
