The
location of spills of fluids under pressure (more than 1 bar) from
pipes and ducts is carried out from the surface and is based on the
analyses of the noise and vibrations that the spill determines.
The analyse of the spectral components and intensity of the noise-vibrations
permits to identify the spill with a precision higher than 95% and
a total positioning error of about 1 meter. The investigations are
normally carried out during night time to minimize the effects determined
by the normal use of the water.
The
first step of the investigation is based on the general control of
a line by putting two magnetic sensors in contact with the pipe. The
sensors record the data and by radio telemetry send the data to the
main unit that analyses the noise in the pipe and process the data
giving a first positioning of possible spills.
The presence of the spills is then controlled by an operator using
a Precision Locator operating from the surface. The spills are then
mapped or indicated on the asphalt.
EUREKOS has a commercial agreement with T.A.E., the major Italian
producer of these equipments, for commercialization and for the training
of personnel and the organisation of services.
